Playing away from home and in rain for most of the day … and our girls golf team just continues to impress.
The Tigers shot a school and tournament record 301 today at the Southeast Polk tournament at Copper Creek Golf Course to win handily. This group broke its own school record by 10 ...shots!
Eden Lohrbach fired a 70 to lead.
Ava Lohrbach 75
Ella Lohrbach 76
Macy Underwood 80
Haley Loonan 80
Josie Dukes 87
This is one of the best teams in any sport in Gilbert school history. Congratulations to the girls and coach Grant Walker! #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
A dark and rainy night at the RRC track and field meet last night was perfect for some black and white photos. All of these are available in our online galleries. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
Our boys track and field team had a fantastic performance at last night’s Raccoon River Conference championships as well. The Tigers hauled in five gold medals, nine top-three finishes, and scored in 15 of the events.
The result: A third-place finish in the team standings behind champion... ADM and runner-up North Polk.
Winning RRC titles for the Tigers included:
Logan Bleich: The freshman doubled up on the distance events, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. He obviously likes running in the rain because he set a new conference record in the mile late in the meet.
Dillon Zwanziger: The senior was the high jump champion.
4x800 Relay: Harrison Kraehling, Preston Stensland, Emmett Barber, and Zain Mueller. Zain put together a strong final lap to pull away from the field.
Distance Medley Relay: Paul Marpe, Nolan Zehr, Emrick Ryan, and Carson Squiers.
Congrats on a great night, boys!

gilbertschools.smugmug.comThe rain didn’t stop our seventh graders from trekking to the elementary this morning to share their creations with our second grade classes.
Let’s back up for a minute.
For language arts class, our seventh graders were tasked with creating their very own children’s book as ...a cultivating project over the fictional reading skills they’ve learned throughout the school year. Students completed a plot line to organize their storylines and identified prevalent themes seen throughout their stories. Each student also wrote a summary of his or her story and included various types of figurative language in the story.
Some students opted to utilize computer programs to digitize their books, while others chose the tried and true method of putting pencil and pen to paper.
Today, the students’ creations came to life in a way. They met with our second graders and shared their books with the students. Some seventh graders read their books to the second graders, and some second graders read the books out loud to the authors themselves. It was incredibly rewarding to walk around each of the five second-grade classrooms and to see the collaboration and joy in the eyes of so many of our students.
Thank you to our seventh-grade language arts teachers Ms. White and Ms. Brinkman for inviting us to the elementary this morning. Students being leaders for other students is such an important part of what we do at Gilbert CSD and that was on display this morning.

Valerie and John Just, the grandparents one one of our students at Gilbert Intermediate, stopped by on Wednesday to talk to our third-grade classes about bees and beekeeping. They keep a traveling bee hive just for occasions like this, where they can go into classrooms and help educate students on ...bees.
These guest speakers came at such a good time, as our third graders were just learning about this in their Life Science Unit.
The students were all so attentive and even surprised Valerie and John a few times when they knew the answers to some of their questions about pollination and the life cycle of bees, among other things.
Thank you to Valerie and John Just for sharing their knowledge with our students!
