Superintendent's Message

Greetings to the Gilbert family from the Beecher family! My name is Lindsey Beecher, and I have been hired as the new Superintendent for the Gilbert Community School District. My family is very excited to become a part of this district, and we look forward to hearing about all the great learning and activities going on here. Announcements

  • In response to the concerns that we have had about preschool sign-up on February 1, all sign-up will be on-line through this website: gilbert.k12.ia.us/elementary/preschool. On Wednesday, February 1 at 9:00 a.m. the form will be available. This is just an initial sign-up form that will ask for name, address, parent contact information, and parent concerns. No paper registration forms will be available that day. We are hoping to eliminate concerns about the dual forms, as well as the congestion that might disrupt our school day. Computers are available for those who are in need at the elementary office and at the district central office. We apologize for the late change, but we are attempting to make this process as painless as possible. We appreciate the support of our families.

    • We have been informed by Wells Fargo Arena that there are still tickets available for the state wrestling finals on Saturday, February 18, 2012. The tickets are available at the Wells Fargo Arena box office for $8.00 per
ticket or at http://www.dahlstickets.com.   The online ticket price is $8.00, plus a convenience fee of $2.60 per ticket.  There will also be a $4.00 handling fee per order for all online orders.   Anyone purchasing tickets online will need a valid credit card to make the purchase.  All sales at the box office must be cash or credit card.

    • Microsoft is dropping the aggressive discounts for teachers and students on Office and Windows Titles in March 2012 For several years the Iowa Educators Consortium (IEC), in partnership with Microsoft and JourneyEd, has provided teachers, students, faculty and staff with discounts on Microsoft Office and Windows software for home use. (Example: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, retail $499, IEC price $89.95).

These discounts have been significantly less than what you’d find in retail stores. The IEC has recently been notified that Microsoft will be discontinuing this program effective March 2012. If Microsoft software is in your future for your home/personal computer, order today to insure you get the best price possible. Orders can be placed online by going to www.JourneyEd.com/Select.  Note: All students can request this pricing, so parents of kindergartners could even order at these prices. JourneyEd will continue to provide education pricing on many other software titles and computer products however we do not anticipate that pricing on Microsoft products will ever be this low again.

    • We are already beginning to plan for the 2012-2013 school year. In an effort to get the most accurate count possible, we are asking for parents to sign up their future kindergartners now. If you have a child that will be 5 years old prior to September 15, 2012 who you are planning on sending to Gilbert Elementary please contact the elementary office at 232-3744. This sign-up will be a chance to get some basic contact information for a head-count. A parent meeting and round-up will occur in the spring. Please call the elementary office if you have any questions.

    • Tiger Zone ~ All in for Gilbert is the 2012 Rock Hop theme!  Mark your calendars for March 31st at the Gateway Hotel from 5pm-10pm.  Our goal is to make the Rock Hop the best yet, and we need your help to accomplish this.   The students in our district are so fortunate to have a Foundation that is “Dedicated to Leaving an Everlasting Legacy” and parents that support that philosophy.

Do you have an idea for a donation? Do you have a time share, cabin, or service you would like to donate?   Who do you know, please let us know.  The deadline for donations is Feb 1, 2012. We welcome all donations and want you to know that they are greatly appreciated!  Thank you for your continued support!

Mark your calendar—March 31st!  We look forward to seeing you at the Hop!

    • The Gilbert Community has a wealth of knowledge through the parents in our district. The Foundation has set up a committee to create a database that would help the district to utilize all the parent expertise that we have in our district. This database will consist of a list of parents/Gilbert Supporters and their area of expertise. This valuable information can help to assist the district with projects, for professional advice, and in other areas. This information will not be shared and will only be used by the Gilbert School District. If you would like to assist us in this venture, please CLICK HERE to complete and submit the form. Thank you!
    • The Gilbert Education Foundation proudly sponsors the annual “Rock Hop” fundraiser each spring. The proceeds from this fundraiser help provide essential programs, materials and equipment to promote an exemplary education for every student in the Gilbert District. Rock Hop communities will be forming in the fall. If you would like to be part of a “Rock Hop” committee, please CLICK HERE to complete and submit the volunteer form.  Thank you!!

    • Jostens has available class ring ordering information and graduation supplies. Please visit www.iowagradshop.com for more information.

    • E-Registration (school registration) through PowerSchool is now open.  E-Registration provides a fast and easy opportunity for parents/guardians to update their child's demographic, contact, health, and permission information through PowerSchool. Once you have completed E-registration for every child registered for school at Gilbert, you will have the option to complete a few required or optional forms not contained within the E-registration system.  E-Registration also allows school staff to quickly make updates in PowerSchool once this information is submitted by the parent/guardian.  Click here to find out more and to access the user guides.

If you have not set up your parent PowerSchool account or you need assistance, please contact Peggy Whaley with questions (whaleyp@gilbert.k12.ia.us or 515-232-3740)
